This project was assigned for a class described as a “video portrait,” capturing an essence of a time period, exhibition or collection from archival footage. I chose to highlight a period of partying and freedom that existed in New York in the 1980s and 90s. It was important for me to sync the visuals to music, as that delivered more on the totality of the portrait.
The research process for this project was not very challenging, as their was some wide documentation from the club scene during its peak. Unifying the footage and making a project that felt whole was difficult, as video was imported with different color spaces, aspect ratios and compositions.
